Exploring opportunities for pressurized emergency water storage in multifamily buildings.
In a major disaster, people will suffer after 2-3 days without water. Residents of multifamily buildings, particularly those managed by non-profits or city departments (e.g., Seattle Housing Authority, Low Income Housing Institute), are often the most vulnerable in a major disaster when normal services are interrupted, and most multifamily residential units are too small to store the emergency water needed for a family of two or more. This project will explore options for centralized water emergency water storage, which could provide a safety buffer of water until disaster services become available or normal services are restored.
